چکیده

Anisotropy in the arrival directions of cosmic rays with energies above 10eV is studied using data from the Akeno 20 km array and the Akeno Giant Air Shower Array (AGASA), using a total of about 114,000 showers observed over 11 years. In the first harmonic analysis, we have found strong anisotropy of ∼ 4% around 10eV, corresponding to a chance probability of ∼ 0.2% after taking the number of independent trials into account. With two dimensional analysis in right ascension and declination, this anisotropy is interpreted as an excess of showers near the directions of the Galactic Center and the Cygnus region.

Study of Broad Scale Anisotropy of Cosmic Ray Arrival Directions from 2× 10eV to 10eV from Fly’s Eye Data

We report results on the broad scale anisotropy of cosmic ray arrival directions in the energy rage from 2 × 10eV to 10eV . The data was taken by the Fly’s Eye detector in both monocular and stereo modes of operation. We look for dependence on galactic latitude or supergalactic latitude by fitting the data to a Wdowczyk and Wolfendale plane enhancement function and a N-S gradient functional for...

VERITAS Observations of the Arrival Directions of the Highest Energy Cosmic Rays

The recent discovery by the Pierre Auger collaboration of anisotropy in the arrival directions of the highest energy cosmic rays, correlated with the positions of nearby active galactic nuclei [1, 2], encourages the search for counterpart TeV gammaray emission. Approximately half of the sky viewed by the southern hemisphere Pierre Auger experiment is also visible at reasonable elevations for th...

Decaying neutron propagation in the Galaxy and the Cosmic Ray anisotropy at 1 EeV

We study the cosmic ray arrival distribution expected from a source of neutrons in the galactic center at energies around 1 EeV and compare it with the anisotropy detected by AGASA and SUGAR. Besides the point-like signal in the source direction produced by the direct neutrons, an extended signal due to the protons produced in neutron decays is expected. This associated proton signal also leads...

Anisotropy in Cosmic-Ray Arrival Directions Using IceCube and IceTop

The IceCube Neutrino Observatory recorded more than 250 billion cosmic-ray induced muon events between May 2009 and May 2014. We use this data set to study the anisotropy in the arrival direction distribution of cosmic rays in the TeV to PeV energy range. The anisotropy features large regions of relative excess and deficit with amplitude on the order of 10−3. A decomposition of the arrival dire...

Comment on “The Lamb Shift and Ultra High Energy Cosmic Rays” and Comment on “Vacuum Polarization Energy Losses of High Energy Cosmic Rays”

The cosmic ray spectrum has been shown to extend well beyond 10eV. With nearly 20 events observed in the last 40 years, it is now established that particles are accelerated or produced in the universe with energies near or above 10eV. No nearby astrophysical object has been shown to correlate with the arrival directions of the highest energy events, yet the exponential cut-off in the high energ...
